Terms of Service

Important, early-access prototype
Homestead is an early-stage prototype offered for personal research and evaluation only. It is provided “as is” and “as available,” may contain errors, may change or stop working at any time without notice, and may lose, reset, or fail to preserve data. All information — including listings, scores, cost and mortgage estimates, and neighborhood data, is experimental, may be inaccurate or out of date, and is not professional advice. By creating an account or using Homestead, you acknowledge that you understand and accept these risks and that you use the service at your own risk. Do not rely on Homestead as the sole basis for any financial, real-estate, tax, legal, or other important decision.
1. What Homestead is
Homestead is a home-discovery and research tool. We curate real-estate listings, estimate ownership costs, and present neighborhood information to help you explore homes. By creating an account or using the service you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the service.
2. Prototype and early-access service
Development stage. Homestead is a prototype in active development. Features are experimental and may be added, changed, suspended, or removed at any time, with or without notice. You may be given access to features that are unfinished or being tested.
Availability. We make no promise that the service will be available, uninterrupted, maintained, or continue to exist. We may modify, suspend, limit, or discontinue the service, in whole or in part, at any time and without liability to you.
Data may be inaccurate or lost. Listings, scores, cost and mortgage projections, and neighborhood information are drawn from third-party sources and automated models. They may be incomplete, delayed, inaccurate, or wrong, and they may be changed, corrupted, reset, or deleted as we develop the product. Keep your own copies of anything you consider important; do not rely on the service to store or preserve your data.
Not professional advice; verify independently. Nothing in the service is financial, investment, tax, legal, appraisal, inspection, or real-estate brokerage advice, and no result or estimate is a guarantee or a promise of any outcome. Always confirm important facts and figures with qualified professionals and primary sources before making any decision.
Assumption of risk. You understand that this is pre-release software and you knowingly and voluntarily accept the risks inherent in using it. This Section applies together with, and does not limit, the disclaimer of warranties and limitation of liability in Sections 8 and 9 below.
3. Your account
You must be at least 18 years old (or the age of majority where you live) to use Homestead. You must provide accurate information when creating an account and keep your credentials secure. You are responsible for activity under your account. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms or abuse the service.
Termination. You may stop using the service and delete your account at any time by contacting support. On termination your right to use the service ends; sections that by their nature should survive (including Sections 8 and 9) continue to apply.
4. Subscriptions and billing
Paid plans are billed on a recurring basis (monthly or annual) through our payment processor, Stripe, until you cancel. By subscribing you authorize recurring charges to your payment method at the price shown at checkout, plus applicable taxes.
Cancellation. You can cancel anytime from the Billing page. Cancellation stops future renewals; you keep access to paid features until the end of the period you already paid for.
Refunds. If this is your first purchase with us, you may request a full refund within 14 days of that first charge, no questions asked. Otherwise payments are non-refundable and cancellation simply stops the next renewal. To request a refund, contact support from your account email.
Price changes. We may change plan prices with at least 30 days’ notice; changes apply from your next renewal.
5. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- scrape, bulk-export, or resell data from the service;
- reverse engineer, decompile, disassemble, copy, or attempt to derive the source code, data, scores, models, or know-how behind the service;
- use the service, its data, or its output to build, train, or operate a competing or substantially similar product or service;
- use the service to discriminate in housing decisions or otherwise violate fair-housing laws;
- probe, disrupt, or circumvent security or rate limits, or access another user’s account;
- use the service for any unlawful purpose.
No reverse engineering or competing use. Except where this restriction is prohibited by applicable law, you may not, and may not permit anyone else to, reverse engineer, copy, or derive the service or its underlying data, scores, models, or design, or use the service or anything obtained from it to design, develop, train, or operate any competing or substantially similar product or service, without our prior written consent. This obligation survives termination of your account.
6. Estimates and third-party data
Listing details come from third-party sources and may be incomplete, delayed, or inaccurate. Scores, cost projections, and investment math are estimates for research purposes only, they are not financial, investment, tax, or legal advice, and no outcome is guaranteed. See our Disclaimers for details. Always verify important facts independently before making decisions.
Not a substitute for licensed professionals. Homestead is not a licensed real-estate broker or agent, mortgage lender or broker, financial or investment adviser, appraiser, home inspector, or law firm, and nothing in the service is a substitute for advice or services from a qualified, licensed professional. You are solely responsible for engaging appropriate professionals and for your own decisions.
7. Intellectual property
The service, including its design, software, scores, and editorial content, belongs to Homestead or its licensors. We grant you a personal, non-transferable license to use the service for your own home research. Listing data remains the property of its respective sources.
Your content. You own the information and preferences you provide (such as your budget, saved homes, and criteria). We claim no ownership of it and use it only to operate and improve the service; see the Privacy Policy for how we handle, retain, and delete it.
8. Disclaimer of warranties
The service is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement. Because the service is an early-access prototype, we expressly do not warrant that it will be available, uninterrupted, error-free, accurate, complete, or that any data will be preserved.
9. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Homestead will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for decisions made in reliance on information in the service. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose, or US$100.
10. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. If a change is material we will notify you by email or in the app before it takes effect. Continued use after the effective date means you accept the updated terms.
11. Governing law and contact
These terms are governed by applicable United States federal law and the laws of the state in which Homestead is based, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Questions? Contact admin@homesteadfound.com.
